Alki Beach Park is the largest chain of places for public access that stretches along the water’s edge. The park stretches from Alki Point to Duwamish Head and offers two and a half miles of beaches. It is perfect for joggers, bicyclists, beach lovers and for those who love active recreation, for volleyball players, runners, walkers, etc.

It should be said that the western part of the park is covered with grass and opens great opportunities for picnics. There are lots of picnic tables, benches and barbeques.

For those who love to sunbathe there is a sandy part of the park that is situated closer to the middle. There are also volleyball facilities and fire circles. It’s worth mentioning that the water temperature here ranges from 46 to 56 degrees Fahrenheit.

Parallel to the park runs several lanes for pedestrians and bikers which are lined with benches. Here visitors can enjoy stunning views of the Olympic Mountains, Puget Sound and different sailing ships and ferries that enter these waters.

Different shops and restaurants are located on the Alki Avenue, from these restaurants you may also enjoy the great views.

History says that Alki beach is the place where the first settlers landed in Seattle in November of 1851. The tribe that lived here and the Chief of Seattle greeted people and helped them to live through the winter. The Birthplace of Seattle Monument is situated on the place where the settlers arrived.

The park has lots of small works of art; amongst them is a replica of the Statue of Liberty. It is located across 60th Avenue Southwest. It was a gift from Reginald H. Parsons and the Seattle Council of the Boy Scouts of America in 1952.

Even art lovers can find something for them here at the park. The Alki Bathhouse Art Studio gives the opportunity for local potters and painters to practice.
