Description:

Pike Place Market is the oldest public market in Seattle. It was founded in 1907 and still sells fresh produce, handmade crafts and different kinds of seafood. This market has been called “the soul of Seattle”. When it was opened only eight farmers sold their goods for a great number of people. Nowadays there are more than 200 vendors who sell here, and more than 10 million people visit this place annually.

Pike Place Market is a must-go for tourists as it is considered to be one of Seattle’s most iconic places. Here visitors will find fresh fruits and vegetables, seafood, aisles of flowers and bouquets, clothes, gifts, handmade jewelry, etc.

It should be mentioned that the Market is located on the hill, and there are several lower levels of the market that are located below the main level of it.

The main goal of the Market is allowing all the customers to meet the producer, so here you will really meet farmers and craftsmen.

Among the main attractions of the area we can name the original Starbucks, which is situated close to the Market. Here you will see a great number of Java lovers who enjoy this place.

The next attraction you need to visit is Pike Place Fish. These guys do really throw fish and it’s worthwhile seeing.

This Market became popular because of all the fresh food that is sold here, but the flower selection here is one of the most beautiful and greatest.

Several words should be said about Rachel the Pig. This bronzed piggy bank is considered to be an unofficial talisman of the Market. It weights more than 550 pounds and annually it helps to collect more than $6,000. If you want to throw some money into this piggy bank, you will find it under the sign “Public Market Center”.

Very often tourists and visitors of the Market are recommended to take a tour. It should be said that 10% from Public Market Tours go to the Market Foundation, which supports Pike Market Childcare & Preschool and the Pike Market Medical Clinic, etc.

If you choose to go on a commercial tour such as Savor Seattle Food Tours or Seattle Bites Food Tours, be sure that you will try all kinds of food that is sold here.

It is easy to love this place for its beauty and diversity, for a great variety of products and attractions.
