Description:

Spencer Spit State Park is a wonderful 138-acre marine park with gorgeous camping possibilities that is situated on Lopez Island in the Strait of Juan de Fuca. This place is famous among the tourists and is a popular place for crabbing, car-top boating, clamming and, of course, camping.

The park got its’ name thanks to the sand in the lagoon. Native Americans used this perfect place for fishing, crabbing and clamming.

In 1967, the land was bought by State Parks and developed into a wonderful recreational spot.

It is located just in four miles from the ferry station, so Spencer Spit is an ideal place for camping camp if you’re on bikes.

Spencer Spit is a gorgeous and stunning beach of pebbles and sand that can be hiked all the year round. Low-tide-time is great for exploring the marine life. Here you will find lots of sea stars and other creatures.

Spencer Spit State Park Trail is a 0.5 mile out and back trail, which runs near Lopez Island. It offers wonderful views and can be hiked even by kids. It should be said that scenic sand spit encloses a lagoon in this State Park. When you come here, it’s easy to loose the sense of time, because time here stops. The picture is so perfect and peaceful and you really want to stop the clock.

You can enjoy this time by camping in one of the 37 tents that offer wonderful sense of unity with nature.

Start your hike at the trailhead and immediately you will see a junction. If you turn right, you will be able to rest at the picnic area. It is also recommended to take a wide trail when the tide is high, because there are lots of beached logs here.

An important thing to do on this hike is to explore the log cabin. It is a replica of a construction that was built out of driftwood logs. This place is perfect for enjoying playful birds and calm waters.

Directions:
