"When anxious, uneasy and bad thoughts come, I go to the sea, and the sea drowns them out with its great wide sounds, cleanses me with its noise, and imposes a rhythm upon everything in me that is bewildered and confused." - Rainer Maria Rilke.

Cape Disappointment might have a name that sparks a chuckle, but its history is wilder than its moniker. This windswept headland in Washington was originally dubbed "Bahia de la Asuncion" by Spanish explorers in 1775, a far cry from its current title. The name "Cape Disappointment" came courtesy of a frustrated British fur trader, John Meares, in 1788. He mistakenly believed the mighty Columbia River was just a small bay, leading to his less-than-enthusiastic christening. Today, Cape Disappointment offers redemption. Lewis and Clark camped here in 1805, marveling at the crashing waves and the abundant wildlife. Now, visitors can explore historic lighthouses, witness migrating gray whales, or hike through forests teeming with life. So, ditch the disappointment and embrace the untamed beauty of this unique Pacific Northwest gem.
Our filmmaker, Roman Khomlyak, utilized the FreeFly Wave High-Speed Camera with enthusiasm to unveil the hidden beauty of nature in slow motion. His attention shifted to Cape Disappointment, Washington, where the Pacific Ocean collided with the Columbia River. The camera captured the turbulent waves with remarkable precision in stunning 4K Ultra HD quality. Roman deliberately selected both the camera and the location to craft an incredibly mesmerizing slow-motion experience. The film was transformed into a tranquil gateway to deep relaxation as gentle piano melodies harmonized with the rhythmic crashes of the ocean, whispering tranquility amidst the wild embrace of Cape Disappointment.
