Description

Alta Vista is a magnificent trail with gorgeous views. In Spanish language Alta Vista means “high view”, and to tell you the truth the views from this trail are really perfect, especially on a clear day.

On a clear day hiker may enjoy not only Mount Rainier, Sluiskin Falls, Pinnacle Peak and The Castle, but also Mount Adams and Mount Saint. Don’t be afraid to hike this trail on a cloudy day, because you will still find great vies at this region.

It should be said that Alta Vista trail is a paved hiking trail that is considered to be great for families with kids and for those people who do not have experience in hiking.

Paradise area is considered to be a great place for summer recreation, on summer this place gets very busy.

Alta Vista offers great possibilities to enjoy the beauty of summer wild flowers that brighten the meadows.

Visitors will encounter avalanche lilies, magenta paintbrush, lupine, partridge foot, bistort, valerian and asters.

Before you go hiking we encourage you to check for the weather forecast at the Paradise Ranger Station or at the Henry M. Jackson Memorial Visitor Center. Be sure to take a map that can be found at the visitor center as well, this map will tell you in details about the trail network at Paradise.

The Alta Vista trail is considered to be steeper than other well-known nature trails in this region. Because it is paved you won’t need special equipment for hiking.

Experts also recommend taking a picnic bag with you, because at the elevation of 5,946 you will absolutely enjoy the picnic. You also don’t need to be afraid of hiking on sunny and hot days because evergreen trees will provide shade and will surely protect you from the sunshine. 

Hikers will also enjoy the views that provide rocky outcroppings; you will surely enjoy the whole Paradise region and the system of trails.

It will take you about 45 minutes to hike the Alta Vista trail from Paradise, the round trip will be about 1.2 miles with elevation gain of 520 feet. If you decide to go along the Alta Vista loop, it will take you about 2 hours. The Alta Vista loop’s length is about 4 miles and with elevation gain of 750 feet.
